About

Greetings and salutations!!

You might be wondering who I am….. I am just a woman from the United States (by way of a few other countries that make up my mixed heritage), who has been fortunate enough to have been given an opportunity to go to some amazing places throughout my life, and I am anticipating going to many more. I live to travel!! I’ve lived in 5 countries so far, spread across 3 continents.  I started this blog just before I embarked on a new job opportunity that would send me to Djibouti a few times, the longest trip being for 6 months. I have visited many more, and many of the places I’ve spent time in are out of the way, and not what you would call typical tourist destinations. I wanted to be able to share my cultural observations with family and friends, so I created Chitalian Travels. The blog inspired by a trip to Djibouti, but hopefully about so much more! I hope you enjoy my stories and pictures!

So you might be wondering about the monicker Travelling Chitalian…. Why did I choose to spell Travelling the British way, when I’m American? Well, I like to think of myself as a fan of language and grammar, and if you follow the writing rules we all learned in elementary school, an L should be added to the word “travel” when you add “-ing”, so add it I did!! And what the heck is “Chitalian”, you ask? Well, that’s a reference to my mixed heritage.

As for my name? My job, which pays for some of my travels, prevents me from being too public about my opinions and viewpoints, so in order to share them with you, I post anonymously. To quote TV’s Gossip Girl:

“And who am I?
That’s one secret I’ll never tell.
You know you love me.
XOXO”
